‘Person-centred care is our priority’: Team win Employee of the Month Award for outstanding support
Published: 14 July 2023

Another month has been and gone which can only mean one thing: we have another Employee of the Month to announce.

We have plenty of caring, compassionate and considerate employees here at Frontier Support. Each of which helps us to deliver a first-class service to people with Learning Disabilities, Autism, Aspergers, Epilepsy and Mental & Physical Health issues week in, week out.

This month, the all-important award went to Team GC for the outstanding care and commitment towards a person we support whilst in hospital.

The case of SO

Led by manager Clara Burfutt — Paulette Johnston, Eunice Oguntause, Yeama Zacksavage, Oluremi Okinola and Moyme Denson were nominated for their outstanding work with one of our clients, SO. The team has successfully supported SO for 14 years.

SO came to Frontier Support from a secure hospital and has high support needs. Earlier this year, sadly, SO became seriously unwell and was admitted to hospital. To make sure she could breath, SO had to wear a full face mask to allow for oxygen to be administered.

When hospital staff tried to place the mask on, SO wouldn’t allow this. However, SO fully trusted all members of the six-strong team, and would let them place the mask on her.

To deal with this conflict, the team took it upon themselves to work out a rota between themselves to stay with SO 24/7 during her stay in hospital. Travelling miles each way, they were committed to supporting SO and protecting her privacy and dignity. They gave up their own time and comforts to support SO to keep the mask on and recover.

‘Person-centred care is our priority’

“Our priority is to provide person-centred care,” Tony Piercy, CEO of Frontier Support says. “And this is a first-hand example of that. Every day is different in the world of care.”

“No one-size service fits all and the team knows that,” Tony says. “In this instance, the team used their training, knowledge and common sense to go above and beyond and support the people we support with respect, dignity and the utmost care and attention no matter the requirements. So this award is well deserved.”

Employee of the Month Awards

We value our colleagues exponentially so here at Frontier Support. Which is why we want to shout it from the rooftops about all the wonderful work our colleagues do.

And our Employee of the Month Awards is a vehicle through which we can do that. That’s why, in March this year we relaunched these awards to give an insight into how our work makes a tangible difference to the people we support.

Each month we encourage our colleagues to nominate a fellow worker who has gone above and beyond in their role. This year’s awards will come to a close in September and in October we’ll be hosting our annual awards which will name the overall Employee of the Year. So watch this space.
