Person Centred Care in Action
We’ve now been working successfully for six months to provide a daily programme of activities for 11 people with learning disabilities at our purpose designed environment in Croydon.
We provide a full and varied programme of activities incorporating art, drama, dance, storytelling and cooking. But the Frontier approach is person centred and so the content from day to day is often inspired by what comes up in our morning session where everyone gets to share their news, what they are enjoying, their likes and dislikes.
Janet Neuwert, Hub Coordinator, said: “It has been fantastic to see this group bond and develop. I’m really proud of what they’ve achieved so far. We find that letting the people we support determine the content of the day is really beneficial and reflects in a positive way with the outcomes of the sessions.”
The Hub is a place where people with learning disabilities can be active and creative in a relaxed and supportive environment. People can come together to learn, develop skills and build relationships. The Hub is also available for hire. The purpose designed facilities include full wheelchair access, a sensory room, 65” flat screen TV, kitchen facilities and a small meeting pod.
There is a massage therapist/ reflexologist on board at the hub five days a week. And with spring almost upon us, the Hub’s urban garden project will soon restart and the warmer weather will allow for visits to places of interest in the local community.
