Christmas isn’t a season—it’s a feeling: How Frontier is helping the people we support celebrate
Published: 9 December 2024

The festive season is upon us and at Frontier Support, the excitement until the Big Day is already in the air.

For the people we support, this time of the year holds special significance. It’s not just about the celebrations—it’s about creating moments of connection, joy, and togetherness.

For individuals living in supported accommodation, particularly those with learning disabilities, these celebrations are vital for fostering a sense of belonging and building cherished memories.

This year, Frontier Support is pulling out all the stops to ensure the festive season is as magical and inclusive as possible. With activities planned in collaboration with the people we support, the focus is on making the celebrations meaningful, fun, and personal for everyone.

How we’re bringing comfort and joy

The lead-up to Christmas is always a buzz of excitement, and at Frontier, we make sure to embrace it. The people we support have been actively involved in planning activities, sharing their ideas for how they’d like to celebrate. This involvement ensures that the season is truly theirs, filled with events and traditions that resonate with them.

Together with the people we support, we’re decking the halls while festive music fills the air, and preparations for the main events are well underway.

From choosing the perfect decorations for their homes to crafting handmade cards and ornaments, every activity is designed to create a sense of joy and accomplishment. For many, these small moments of preparation are just as meaningful as the celebrations themselves.

‘Tis the season for festive events

A calendar of exciting activities has been planned, and two key events stand out this year.

Secret Santa is always a favourite, and for 2024, it’s been elevated with a twist. Each person will have the opportunity to both give and receive a gift, fostering a sense of community and thoughtfulness.

For many of the people we support, the act of choosing a gift for someone else is as rewarding as receiving one, providing an opportunity to express kindness and strengthen relationships.

While our Tea and Cake Christmas Celebration, planned in collaboration with the people we support, promises to be another highlight.

With a spread of festive treats, warm drinks, and a cosy atmosphere, this gathering is all about connection and sharing. It’s a time to come together, reflect on the year, and celebrate the season as a community. The event will feature carol singing, storytelling, and a few surprise activities to keep the festive spirit alive.

The importance of celebrations for the people we support

The festive season can be a challenging time for individuals with learning disabilities or those living in supported accommodation. Feelings of isolation or exclusion are common, particularly for those who may not have close family connections.

But that’s where celebrations, like the ones we’ve listed above, play a crucial role in combating those feelings by creating opportunities for social interaction and building a sense of belonging.

These events aren’t just about festive fun—they’re about fostering emotional well-being. Shared activities, laughter, and the warmth of being surrounded by friends and staff provide a positive boost to mental health. They also serve as a reminder that the people we support are part of a larger, caring community.

For individuals with learning disabilities, the opportunity to participate in meaningful activities builds confidence and independence. Whether it’s helping to organise the event, decorating the space, or simply taking part—every contribution is valued. These celebrations create a sense of achievement and reinforce that their voices and choices matter.

Seasons Greetings!

At Frontier Support, we understand that the festive season is about more than just the day itself. It’s about the moments of preparation, the joy of anticipation, and the togetherness that makes this time of year so special.

By collaborating with the people we support to create these celebrations, we ensure that everyone feels included, valued, and part of the festive magic.

As we count down to the big day, the smiles, laughter, and excitement across our services are a testament to the power of these shared experiences.

From Secret Santa to tea and cake, each event is a reminder of what the festive season is truly about—bringing people together, celebrating individuality, and spreading joy.
