Croydon partnership delivers new homes for adults with disabilities
Frontier Support is delighted to announce the opening of Henderson House – a new development of flats for adults with physical or learning disabilities.
Situated just off South Norwood High Street, the development comprises seven one-bed and three two-bed self-contained flats. It will be used to house vulnerable adults from Croydon within a supported living environment.
All 10 flats are partially furnished so tenants can move from residential care or family homes. Two of the properties are wheelchair-adapted and have wet rooms and adjustable-height kitchen units. The block also includes:
- On-site support staff available 24 hours a day
- A care alarm system
- A communal hub area to allow social interaction
- Lift access
Henderson House is the result of a collaboration between four Croydon organisations: Specialist Care Provider – Frontier Support, Charity- Zetetick Housing, Croydon Council and local developer FS Properties.
Official opening
The building was officially opened by Sarah Jones, MP for Croydon Central and Shadow Housing Minister, on Friday 18th October. She said: “I’m delighted to open this new development which will offer vulnerable residents in Croydon a safe, secure place to call home. Demand for supported housing is increasing, yet funding for this vital service has been severely cut since 2010, leaving some of our most vulnerable people at risk of homelessness. So it’s fantastic to see four local Croydon organisations collaborating to make Henderson House a reality.”
Tony Piercy, CEO of Frontier Support, added: “There are proven benefits to people being supported in their own homes. But it can be isolating to live alone within the community when you have additional needs. So, we believe that developments such as Henderson House provide the best of both worlds – independent living behind your own front door combined with communal facilities to mix and forge relationships with others in a safe space.”
Gary Scott – CEO of Zetetick Housing, the largest supplier of supported living accommodation in Croydon, said: “We’re delighted to be involved in this partnership to provide new services to some of the most disadvantaged people in the Borough. We have used our longstanding knowledge of supported living to work with FS Properties to develop the flats. And the tenants will be supported by our Care Provider partner, Frontier Support. We’re thrilled that Henderson House is being used by Croydon Council’s Commissioning team to house Croydon residents in homes of their own – in many cases for the first time in their lives.”
