How Frontier Support staff are helping vulnerable adults cope with lockdown life

Since the UK was put into lockdown, on March 23rd, Frontier Support has continued to provide specialist care to around 60 vulnerable adults in the community.

We aim to work with the people we support in a very organised and pragmatic way, ensuing they have as much control over their own lives as possible.

As we approach week seven we are all aware of the challenges living in lockdown can bring. And it can be even more difficult for those with additional needs or for whom the structure and routines they have built up are vital.  Like many, the people we support have been catching up on box sets, making sure to get outside for their daily walk and keeping in touch with family via videocalls.

But our support workers have also been doing their upmost to find creative ways to keep structure, routine and fun.  Here’s a quick round up of some Frontier lockdown activities:

Physical activities

  • Online Malookoo Dance Class, which is all about having fun whilst exercising.
  • Bike rides

Mental challenges

  • Puzzles and board games
  • House quizzes
  • Learning new words and their meanings
  • Finding out more about British geography

Artistic pursuits

  • A range of arts and crafts
  • Cooking sessions
  • Singing sessions
  • Playing musical instruments

Everybody has been joining in with the rest of the community for the weekly ‘Clap For Carers’, to say ‘thanks’ and show their support.

Tony Piercy, Frontier CEO, said: “Clearly, our priority is to keep people safe and healthy and to make sure that we’re all observing the restrictions, following guidelines around handwashing and remembering the physical distancing rules.

“But this situation is such a lot for the people we support to take on and we’re really proud of all our support workers who have been absolutely marvelous at finding creative and fun ways to minimise the impact of this pandemic situation.”
